Different file types fail in different ways.<\/p>\n<h2>The practical threshold I used<\/h2>\n<p>I was not chasing the smallest possible number. In practice, that is the fastest way to find out whether the file even needs stronger compression.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-579\" src=\"https:\/\/pdfmagic.cc\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/pdf-compress3.png\" alt=\"Download compressed PDF result\" width=\"724\" height=\"258\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pdfmagic.cc\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/pdf-compress3.png 724w, https:\/\/pdfmagic.cc\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/pdf-compress3-300x107.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 724px) 100vw, 724px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After download, I checked the weak spots first, not the easy pages.<\/p>\n<h2>Where compression stops being worth it<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Worth it:<\/strong> when the file has scans or large screenshots and still looks professional after compression<\/li>\n<li><strong>Borderline:<\/strong> when charts start losing line clarity but the upload limit is strict<\/li>\n<li><strong>Not worth it:<\/strong> when the original file is already small and you are only saving a few hundred KB<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That last case is common, and people still over-compress those files for no real gain.<\/p>\n<h2>What I would do in real work<\/h2>\n<p>If a file is still too large after one reasonable pass, I would rather <a href=\"https:\/\/pdfmagic.cc\/split-pages\/\">split the PDF<\/a> than keep degrading it.
